Chinese Democracy means FREE Dr. Pepper!

posted by matt | 10.27.08 | permalink |

It's so easy when everybody's tryin' to drink me

Earlier this year, Dr. Pepper promised a free can of soda to everyone in America (except Slash and Buckethead) if the new Guns N Roses album, Chinese Democracy, was actually released in 2008. 15 years after the release of their last album, The Spaghetti Incident (which was basically a covers album), Chinese Democracy will actually be released at Best Buy stores on November 23rd. Guns N Roses released the first song of the album already. Here it is:

Personally, I can’t decide if it rocks or not. What do you think? Take our poll here.

Anyway, it also seems as though Dr. Pepper is keeping its promise. Details of how to obtain your free Dr. Pepper on the release date are in their riddled-with-gnr-songspeak press release located on their blog, http://www.chinesedemocracywhen.blogspot.com/

From a March NME article, Dr Pepper’s Marketing Director Jaxie Alt said:

“It took a little patience to perfect Dr Pepper’s special mix of 23 ingredients, which our fans have come to know and love. So we completely understand and empathise with Axl’s quest for perfection – for something more than the average album. We know once it’s released, people will refer to it as ‘Dr Pepper for the ears’ because it will be such a refreshing blend of rich, bold sounds - an instant classic.”

Axl Rose responded with a statement on GNR’s website:

“We are surprised and very happy to have the support of Dr Pepper with our album ‘Chinese Democracy’, as for us, this came totally out of the blue. If there is any involvement with this promotion by our record company or others, we are unaware of such at this time. And as some of Buckethead’s performances are on our album, I’ll share my Dr Pepper with him.”

Does 'Chinese Democracy' rock?
