Do you know your enemy?

posted by jamie | 04.28.09 | permalink | 6 comments |

I heard Green Day’s first single off their new CD, 21st Century Breakdown, for the first time on Lazer 99.3 yesterday afternoon on the way home from work. I like it. I was a big fan of American Idiot, and wasn’t sure they’d be consistent with their quality on their future albums, but I must say, this rocks. Usually it takes a few listens for news songs to grow on me, but I liked this one right away. Lyrics follow the video:

Green Day – New Music – More Music Videos

Do you know the enemy?
Do you know your enemy?
Well, gotta know the enemy
Do you know the enemy?
Do you know your enemy?
Well, gotta know the enemy
Do you know the enemy?
Do you know your enemy?
Well, gotta know the enemy
Violence is an enemy
Against the enemy
Violence is an energy
Bringing on the fury
The choir infantry
Revolt against the honor to obey
Overthrow the effigy
The vast majority
Burning down the foreman of control
Silence is the enemy
Against your urgency
So rally up the demons of your soul
Do you know the enemy?
Do you know your enemy?
Well, gotta know the enemy
Do you know the enemy?
Do you know your enemy?
Well, gotta know the enemy
The insurgency will rise
When the bloods been sacrificed
Don’t be blinded by the lies
In your eyes
Violence is an energy
From here to eternity
Violence is an energy
Silence is the enemy
So gimme gimme revolution
Do you know the enemy?
Do you know your enemy?
Well, gotta know the enemy
Do you know the enemy?
Do you know your enemy?
Well, gotta know the enemy
Overthrow the effigy
The vast majority
Burning down the foreman of control
Silence is the enemy
Against your urgency
So rally up the demons of your soul

These fiskin dbags? What are they talking about? Crap which they don’t know and better men have forfeited all their tomorrows so these toolsheds can blather about nonsensical idiocy.

Green Day should stick to tennage angst anthems, cuz that’s what they know. None of them have ever been in a place to choose between life and controversy or death and forgetfulness. Not one ever wore the cloth of the nation. Screw ‘em.

Our government has a history of and continues to violate basic human and natural rights like Habeas Corpus, the right to assemble, the right to petition the government for grievances, and other outrages. An example includes violations of the castle doctrine where Uncle Sam spies on our private communications, engages in no-nock raids, peeks in our windows looking for anything the “moral majority” doesn’t like.

As far as this writer is concerned, the fact that Green Day didn’t wear, “the cloth of the nation” makes them more virtuous. It means they didn’t go to a government indoctrination camp where they learned to kill foreigners to further the president’s political career.

The politics are right in this song. Flashoverride and similar nationalist warmonger goons are the enemy.

NO matter your opinion on the song, you have to admit it is very catchy. The music itself is nice.

does anybody remember when green day used to squat with op ivy? does anybody remember when green day was a punk band with street cred? what happened? Money is a vice that no one can withstand. They realized that there was a huge market of angsty adolescent jerk offs. we can be mad at green day all we want but when it comes down to it, I too would completely change my musical style, clothing style and make up style for millions of dollars. peace
