Five… Five Dollar… Five Dollar Footlong

posted by matt | 07.09.08 | permalink | 3 comments |

It’s cat-cat-catching on. The Subway five dollar footlong song is one of the catchiest jingles of late on the television. The repetition of the message, “five dollar footlong”, like Head On! Apply directly to the forehead, is key. Who are the ad wizards who came up with this one? Why, it’s MMB, who also has done ads for Meow Mix and Sam Adams.

Catchy isn’t it? You won’t be able to get it out of your head now.

Here’s a pretty amusing low budge vid from a guy trying to come to grips with the theme song being stuck in his head.

I had a five dollar foot long the other day and I ate it at a Maine rest stop of of 95. While there we looked over at a family transporting all sorts of goodies from their car (like a rice cooker) to their picnic table. Sadly, our five dollar foot longs did not stand up to the rest stop feast going on at the next table.

Last night I was listening to one of my Lost podcasts in the car after dinner. It was the Dharmalars podcast, to be exact. And they play their listener voicemail at the end, and there’s always this one guy, Dre, who leaves these long, rambling, incoherent messages. And at the end, he started saying, “Well, I gotta go…it’s almost 5……..5 dollar footloooooong…anyway, see ya guys”.
