Depending on which one of us you ask, the LOST finale was either awesome or not awesome, but one thing I think both Jamie and I agree on is that the LOST-ified Target commercials that aired during the 7,000 commercial breaks were awesome and amusing.
If selling barbecue sauce, smoke detectors, and replacement computer keyboards to LOST dorks was your goal, then Target– you have replaced the rock in the rock hole to get that light to shine again.
Target + LOST: Numbers:
Target + LOST: Ribs
Target + LOST: Smokey
And, not surprisingly, spoofs are already popping up on the YouTubes.

Have you ever thought to yourself, man I wish I could watch Jorge Garcia dance along to Britney Spears’ Womanizer while raking the lawn?
Well today is your lucky day because your Hurley dreams have finally come true, friend!
The ABC House promos have been running a lot lately. They feature characters from various ABC shows living under one roof. Some of them are pretty damn amusing.
Here’s another one, featuring McDreamy from Grey’s Anatomy and Charlie Pace from LOST (who is now on Flash Forward). The old guy from Modern Family the annoying cougar from Cougar Town also make an appearance.
Do you have any other favorites you’ve found on the interwebs? Let us know in the comments!

There was a pretty awesome songspeak on the Soup Awards this past weekend. Jeffrey Osborne’s classic 80’s ballad On the Wings of Love was nominated for his perfomance of the song on the season finale of ABC’s The Bachelor. Although Heidi Montag’s abominable performance from the Miss Universe Pageant won the award, Jeffrey Osborne made a surprise appearance and announced to Joel McHale and the rest of the world the existence of his new wing restaurant, Jeffrey Osborne’s Wings of Love. It appears to be along the lines of the Toasted Owl that we here at songspeak like to frequent, and Jeffrey sang a great new version of his famous hit that promoted the restaurant. You can see the performance here (warning – it will make you hungry for wings):

I had lunch at McDonald’s today.
And let’s see, I didn’t drive my Delorean there. I didn’t turn a giant frozen donkey wheel prior to leaving the office. I didn’t even get in a phone booth or anything. So why was I transported back to 1996 when I set foot in the restaurant?
As I sat down and got ready to sink my teeth into my double-quarter pounder with cheese meal and its two sear-sizzled grade-A beef patties of goodness, what do I hear playing over the speakers? Why, Where Do You Go? by No Mercy of course. You’d know the song if you heard it. It was one of those dance hits, the style of which was uber-popular in the mid to late 90’s. In fact, until just now, I thought No Mercy was responsible for the following, but it was really Haddaway:
All those friggin’ dance techno groups sounded the same, didn’t they? And who hasn’t bopped their head along to this kind of music like Will Ferrell and Chris Kattan? I’m not sure if that falls under the category of songspeak or dancespeak, but it’s definitely been ingrained in our culture thanks to Saturday Night Live.
And while we’re of the subject of techno dance music, let’s have a (much belated) moment of silence for Melanie Thornton, former lead singer of La Bouche. We never had a chance to be her lover. Be her lover.

I never thought I’d find myself remotely interested in The Fray, but then they had to go and release a Lost music video.
As a fervent Lostaholic, I’m counting down the days until the season 5 premiere on January 21st. In preparation for the premiere, ABC has been running promos constantly and building anticipation. One of the promos is a video for The Fray’s new single You Found Me.
The video incorporates clips from the previous 4 seasons of Lost, as well as some juicy new scenes that die-hard fans are already voraciously picking apart (see Ajira Airways, for instance).
And even though The Fray sounds like every other current pop/alt/rock band, I’ll be damned if any song doesn’t sound good when put to a montage of Lost scenes.

This is one of my favorite songspeaks from Seinfeld. It’s George Costanza singing the outgoing message on his answering machine to the tune of the theme song to The Greatest American Hero by Joey Scarbury.
The Greatest American Hero was a short-lived show that ran for 3 seasons from 1981 to 1983 on ABC starring William Katt. I remember watching it (and liking it!) when I was kid, though I was only about 7 at the time. Everyone knows the theme song, so the reference on Seinfeld (which aired on NBC….hmmmmm) wasn’t really lost on anyone.
Matt and I liked this clip so much, we included the Seinfeld soundclip, followed by the actual song by Joey Scarbury, on volume 13 of the original Songspeak’s Greatest Hits.

National Bingo Night is a game show that ran on ABC in 2007 for only 5 episodes, but Kristen and I managed to catch an episode or two. We totally LOL’d whenever they would pan to the audience and ‘The Commissioner’ would exclaim “NOooOOooOO BINGO!”
This has evolved into a running joke between us, usually relating to checking if something is in the fridge. If we’re making salad for example, I’ll say something like “we haaaaave…… NO cucumber!”
Sunil Narkar, dressed in a referee’s uniform, plays the part of the commissioner.
No bingo!!!

Anyone who knows me knows I’m obsessed with Lost. Yes, yes, it’s true. I listen to many of the podcasts, watch the show religiously, own all the DVD’s, and pretty much pick it apart at any given opportunity.
I also like the Pixies. Not obsessively so, but I have been opened up to the goodness that is their music by my wife, Jo. We even went to see them a few years ago when they played the Mullins Center at UMass.
How do these two things relate? Well, if one pokes around youtube, one can find many fan-made music videos set to clips of their favorite shows. Some are decent, and some are just downright awful. A couple years ago, the Jay and Jack Lost video podcast showed a Lost music video set to Where is My Mind by the Pixies, and I really liked it. It’s a good song, and the clips and beats flow really well together.
So, for those of you Lost fans who are also suffering withdrawals during this extended hiatus, enjoy:
