  Lean On Me withers Brawny paper towels’ absorbtion

  For the paper towel company that’s never really had a slogan, Brawny at least has its iconic Brawny Man mascot, a flannel shirted (mustachioed pre-2003) lumberjack who hawks the benefits of super-absorbent paper towels. In its latest tv commercial, the Brawny Man gets all soulful, performing a very special version of the Bill Withers classic, Lean On Me.

  But does this commercial really work? I for one am totally creeped out by the fact that the animated Brawny man is not only supposedly singing Lean On Me, but he’s also the announcer. There’s just something about it that scares me. Perhaps this is why I prefer Bounty: The quicker picker upper”.

  Witness the thickness: “Lean on me, when you need something strong, I’ll be your friend, I’ll help you carry on”.

  By the way, my cousin Tom dressed up as the Brawny man for Halloween once. Flannel shirt and jeans– carried a roll of paper towels– Halloween costume. Done.
