Highlarious Target Commercials aired during LOST finale

    posted by matt | 05.24.10 | permalink | 2 comments

Depending on which one of us you ask, the LOST finale was either awesome or not awesome, but one thing I think both Jamie and I agree on is that the LOST-ified Target commercials that aired during the 7,000 commercial breaks were awesome and amusing.

If selling barbecue sauce, smoke detectors, and replacement computer keyboards to LOST dorks was your goal, then Target– you have replaced the rock in the rock hole to get that light to shine again.

    Target + LOST: Numbers:

    Target + LOST: Ribs

    Target + LOST: Smokey

And, not surprisingly, spoofs are already popping up on the YouTubes.

Give me back that Filet O’ Fish…again!

    posted by jamie | 02.19.10 | permalink | 7 comments

We here at songspeak were thrilled to discover that our favorite commercial of 2009 has spawned a sequel in 2010. The singing fish is back to promote McDonald’s Filet O’ Fish sandwich. I can’t believe it’s been a year since the original classic debuted. As with most things, the sequel isn’t quite as good as the original, but I’m thrilled to see that they updated the song to go with the new cell phone story they’re telling this year. “If it were you in that sandwich, you wouldn’t be getting this calllllllll!”

CheesyMeat posted ringtones of the Give Me Back That Filet O Fish song that you can download to your phone.

“I’m on a horse!” – The Man Your Man Could Smell Like

    posted by matt | 02.19.10 | permalink | 1 comment

I’m a fan of the Old Spice commercials in general,  but this one is just absolutely superb. The Portland, Oregon based Wieden + Kennedy created this ad featuring former NFL wide receiver, Isaiah Mustafa.

Amazingly, this commercial uses very little computer-generated effects. They constructed a set which consisted of a bathroom set, rest upon a half of a boat. They used a 50ft crane to position everything correctly.

They even used the motherflipping crane to position Isaiah Mustafa ONTO THE HORSE AS HE’S ACTING TOWARDS THE CAMERA. The only computer graphics involved are the diamonds and Old Spice body wash popping out of his hand.

    CRAZY!

Here’s an interview with the creative minds at Wieden + Kennedy for the Old Spice ads, Eric Kallman and Craig Allen where they spill the beans about everything that went into this commercial.

You’re playing like Betty White out there!

    posted by matt | 02.07.10 | permalink | 1 comment

The Snickers commercial featuring the incomparable Betty White and the adorable Abe Vigoda was probably one of the best commercials shown during the 2010 Super Bowl. It really looked like they got tackled pretty hard! Featuring their new tagline, “You’re Not You When You’re Hungry“, I can only hope this is a sign of more commercials featuring Betty White.

Betty White has always been hilarious, from her days on Golden Girls to her various appearances on talk shows and small roles on tv shows. Betty White fans have recently created a Facebook fan page called Betty White to Host SNL (Please?)! which has over 70,000 fans and counting. We at Songspeak agree. She’d be a perfect SNL host.

Gidget, the Taco Bell chihuahua, has died

    posted by matt | 07.22.09 | permalink | comment?

tacobelldoghasdied Taco Bell’s chihuahua Gidget, the one made famous by the Yo Quiero Taco Bell commercials, has died at the age of 15.

Farewell, Gidget. You introduced the chalupa and the gordita to me, and promoted that 90’s Godzilla movie that I wound up seeing. I will never forget you.

I’ll be pouring a little baja blast Mountain Dew on the curb in your memory.

Feds get their own Eric Violette and make fun of the FreeCreditReport.com commercials

    posted by matt | 03.13.09 | permalink | comment?

ftccreditreportThe Federal Trade Commission is trying to prevent people from getting scammed by FreeCreditReport.com by releasing parodies of the infamous commercials featuring Eric Violette using their own, less dreamy, singer guy. They encourage you to go to AnnualCreditReport.com instead, since you don’t have to sign up for any dumb memberships or pay any hidden fees to get access to your awesomely low credit score.

That’s right, FreeCreditReport.com sure isn’t free, people. Don’t let that doe-eyed, curly haired french-canadian singer foolz ya.

    Here’s the FTC’s parody of FreeCreditReport.com’s Pirates

Here’s another one, a parody of FreeCreditReport.com’s Dreamgirl

    We’d better settle this one…

vaughnFor those of you who live near The Law Offices of Mark E. Salomone, The Law Offices of James Scott Farrin, Kalfus & Nachman, Goodman Acker, Marks & Harrison, or any of the many many law firms who feature Robert Vaughn, William Shatner, Erik Estrada (unsurpassed blue collar market and hispanic appeal!), and even Joe Isuzu in their television commercials, you may have wondered why on earth your local/regional law firm got these people to endorse them.

    estrada

It’s all because Massachusetts based firm, Market Masters offers “custom-filmed spokespersons” to legal offices big and small. We here at Songspeak have to hand it to them, they really have saturated television with these commercials. And law firms save some money by using these template-ish commercials instead of trying to produce them themselves. Sounds like a real WIN-WIN-1 to us.

In a world… without Don LaFontaine’s movie voice

    posted by matt | 09.02.08 | permalink | 4 comments

A voiceover master, Don LaFontaine recorded countless movie trailers, commericals, programs, files and other presentations. He was arguably the most successful voice actor of all time. Monday, September 1st, 2008, LaFontaine died at the age of 68 following complications from a collapsed lung.

Here’s a good retrospective on his career.

    From LaFontaine’s website:

Over the past 25 years, LaFontaine cemented his position as the “King of Voice-overs.” Aside from his continuing work in the trailer industry, he has also been the voice of NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox and UPN, in addition to TNT, TBS and the Cartoon Network. By conservative estimates, he has voiced hundreds of thousands of television and radio spots, including commercials for Chevrolet, Pontiac, Ford, Budweiser, McDonalds, Coke, and many other corporate sponsors. At last count, he has worked on nearly 5000 films, including appearances as the in-show announcer for the Screen Actors Guild and Academy Awards. Based on contracts signed, he has the distinction of being perhaps the single busiest actor in the history of SAG.

Due to the sheer number of trailers he recorded, Don LaFontaine became known for his “In a world….” phrase. He poked fun of his cliche phrase at various events, and of course, in this great Geico commercial.
