South Park’s 13th season opened with an episode called “I See Dead Celebrities” in which Patrick Swayze, Michael Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, Ed McMahon, Walter Cronkite, DJ AM, David Carradine, Bea Arthur, and others appear in Purgatory. It was the Summer of Death after all.
Of particular note, however, was Cartman’s appreciation for advertising hero Billy Mays who is shown here hawking a product called Chipoltaway, which removes blood stains from one’s underwear after eating Chipotle.

Ed McMahon passed away today at the age of 86. He had health issues for a number of years. Known as Johnny Carson’s sidekick on the Tonight Show, he also was the spokesperson for Publisher’s Clearing House, delivering giant checks to winners everywhere. But his most recent accomplishment are the rap commercials he did for FreeCreditReport.com. And as we wish you R.I.P. Ed McMahon, we enjoy your sense of humor.

I can’t decide if it was funny, sad, or funny because it was so sad. Ed McMahon and MC Hammer hawk their wares in the Cash4Gold.com tv commercial that aired during the Super Bowl last night.
It was gold, Jerry. Gold!

When I read about this, I thought it was a joke, but it’s true. The newest commercials for FreeCreditReport.com feature Ed McMahon rapping. They will air throughout October. Does this mean that Eric Violette just isn’t cool enough with his own rap video for FreeCreditReport.com? (See the MSNBC article, “Sing It, FreeCreditReport.com guy!”)
From the AP:
The 85-year-old former “Tonight Show” sidekick will star in two viral rap videos for FreeCreditReport.com, a financial Web site owned by credit bureau Experian. The videos feature McMahon wearing a tracksuit, being chauffeured around Los Angeles in a Cadillac Escalade golf cart and waxing lyrical about his very public financial troubles.
“I knew I could sing the blues, but I didn’t know I could rap,” McMahon said Wednesday…
…After being joined by two scantily clad women, McMahon continues: “Got a bump from the media chumps, but that was temporary/Wife with bad credit was scary, so I got wise/I may have fallen, but I got back up/Now I’m back on the attack, like a ninja swinging nunchucks/I told the haters, ‘Go on, take a hike’/It’s my show now, and I can do what I like.”
We’ve seen the FreeCreditReport commercials where Eric Violette dresses up like a pirate in a seafood restaurant, rolls around in a used subcompact, marries his dreamgirl, and rides around on a bicycle.
And of course, here’s the latest rockstar rap video with Eric Violette:
Here’s to hoping McMahon’s rap skillz measure up, son. Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere’s Money.
