Ed McMahon passed away today at the age of 86. He had health issues for a number of years. Known as Johnny Carson’s sidekick on the Tonight Show, he also was the spokesperson for Publisher’s Clearing House, delivering giant checks to winners everywhere. But his most recent accomplishment are the rap commercials he did for FreeCreditReport.com. And as we wish you R.I.P. Ed McMahon, we enjoy your sense of humor.

The Federal Trade Commission is trying to prevent people from getting scammed by FreeCreditReport.com by releasing parodies of the infamous commercials featuring Eric Violette using their own, less dreamy, singer guy. They encourage you to go to AnnualCreditReport.com instead, since you don’t have to sign up for any dumb memberships or pay any hidden fees to get access to your awesomely low credit score.
That’s right, FreeCreditReport.com sure isn’t free, people. Don’t let that doe-eyed, curly haired french-canadian singer foolz ya.
Here’s the FTC’s parody of FreeCreditReport.com’s Pirates
Here’s another one, a parody of FreeCreditReport.com’s Dreamgirl

This co-branded commercial from Coke and Walmart is very FreeCreditReport.com-ish, but the sentiment is nice.
Merry Christmas from all of us at Songspeak.

When I read about this, I thought it was a joke, but it’s true. The newest commercials for FreeCreditReport.com feature Ed McMahon rapping. They will air throughout October. Does this mean that Eric Violette just isn’t cool enough with his own rap video for FreeCreditReport.com? (See the MSNBC article, “Sing It, FreeCreditReport.com guy!”)
From the AP:
The 85-year-old former “Tonight Show” sidekick will star in two viral rap videos for FreeCreditReport.com, a financial Web site owned by credit bureau Experian. The videos feature McMahon wearing a tracksuit, being chauffeured around Los Angeles in a Cadillac Escalade golf cart and waxing lyrical about his very public financial troubles.
“I knew I could sing the blues, but I didn’t know I could rap,” McMahon said Wednesday…
…After being joined by two scantily clad women, McMahon continues: “Got a bump from the media chumps, but that was temporary/Wife with bad credit was scary, so I got wise/I may have fallen, but I got back up/Now I’m back on the attack, like a ninja swinging nunchucks/I told the haters, ‘Go on, take a hike’/It’s my show now, and I can do what I like.”
We’ve seen the FreeCreditReport commercials where Eric Violette dresses up like a pirate in a seafood restaurant, rolls around in a used subcompact, marries his dreamgirl, and rides around on a bicycle.
And of course, here’s the latest rockstar rap video with Eric Violette:
Here’s to hoping McMahon’s rap skillz measure up, son. Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere’s Money.

We posted a bunch of stuff this past week. Some posts made us laugh, some posts made us cry. When we got together over some burritos and diet pepsi last night to plot our takeover of the internet, we realized it may be awhile before global domination ensues. One thing is for certain however, songspeak is here to stay.
Here are some of our recent faves.
- Dungarees make me feel fine
- Don’t insult our intelligence, Subway!
- Comcast TV ads with terrible, yet clever puns
- AC/DC: They’ve got the biggest balls of the Wal-Mart
- Oh, What a feeling! Toyota!
- New FreeCreditReport.com commercial with Eric Violette on a bicycle
Whatever will next week bring us? Oh, the headline is a reference to this movie, in case you were wondering.

Our Songspeak readers have been big fans of the FreeCreditReport.com commercials starring Canadian actor Eric Violette; The Car Song, The Pirate Song, and The Dream Girl Song. I saw a new FreeCreditReport.com commercial last night (while watching House Hunters on HGTV) featuring Eric and his band on bicycles talking about high gas prices. I believe it is called, appropriately, “The Bicycle”.

For awhile now, FreeCreditReport.com has been running some clever commercials featuring Eric Violette singing clever songs about how he should have gone to FreeCreditReport.com instead of that tool on the stool saying, “I’m THINKING of a number…”. These commercials feature clever songs sung in English, even though Eric Violette is French-Canadian whose primary language is French.
The Car Song: I was shopping for a new car, which one’s me… A cool convertible or an SUV?
