SONGSPEAKwe're going off the rails on a crazy train |

One phrase Jamie and I like to use around the Songspeak cubicles is “That’s gold, Jerry… gold!” (Jamie used it in his last post in fact).
It’s a reference to the Seinfeld episode entitled, The Fatigues, which features a character named Kenny Bania, the comedian who likes to make jokes about milk-based products. Known for his uncomplicated humor (“jokes you don’t have to think about”), Jerry mentors him and gives some material to him about Ovaltine to (It should be called Roundtine!”).
Here’s the scene where he responds with… “That’s gold, Jerry. GOLD!”
Wait a sec, I thought Jay Thomas was Jerry Gold.

Geico’s done it again. They’ve put together yet another clever ad campaign that I get a kick out of. I can’t think of another company/product with so many simultaneous great ad campaigns, but it works for them. There’s the Geico gecko, the “so easy a caveman could do it“, the celebrities-assist-in-telling-an-accident story, and now the being-watched-by-the-money-you-could-be-saving campaign:
The best part about these commercials is that they utilize the 1984 Rockwell classic Somebody’s Watching Me. I used to love the video when I was a kid:
Chalk this up as another advertising win for Geico. I may not use them for my car insurance, but I sure do love their quirky out-there commercials. And any company that uses Rockwell in their commercials is gold, Jerry, gold.

Crispin Porter + Bogusky is one of the more creative ad agencies out there, creating ad campaigns for Burger King, MINI, and now of course, Microsoft. The much hyped ad campaign for Microsoft began with “Shoe Circus”, an amusing ad about nothing featuring Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Gates shopping in a discount shoe store. They were clearly introducing Gates and Seinfeld as a comedy duo, a sign of things to come.
In the latest installment, entitled “New Family”, Gates and Seinfeld are shown living in a house with an average suburban family (well, except for the kick-ass grandmother). Gates asks Seinfeld why they are there and Jerry Seinfeld responds…
“Why Bill? Because as we discussed, you and I are a little out of it. You’re living in some kind of moon house hovering over Seattle like the mothership; I’ve got so many cars, I get stuck in my own traffic. We need to connect with real people.”
These ads are sure amusing, must like Seinfeld’s show about nothing. But will they sell more PCs? Not without free pizza, gentlemen.
