    Google Music Search launches… s’okay, I guess

    posted by matt | 10.29.09 | permalink | 1 comment

Google launched some new music search features as well as a new Google Music landing page yesterday. The changes allow users to listen and purchase music by searching in Google…. kind of. They accomplished this by partnering with sites such as Lala, iLike, and MySpace. Time will tell if it catches on and/or poses any real threat to iTunes.

Go ahead, try it for yourself. What’s all this OneBox stuff I see in the search string?

Search for Artists, Albums or Artists and a song

Or try a sample search below

    • Artists: Kings of Leon, Bob Dylan, Bon Jovi
    • Albums: 21st century breakdown, Pet Sounds, Southern Voice
    • Artists and a song: Paramore Ignorance, Plies Hypnotized, Luke Bryan Do I

I’m making songs with Songsmith, Dad, ’cause it’s the cool new thing

    posted by matt | 01.20.09 | permalink | 3 comments

songsmithroxanneMicrosoft latest greatest epic FAIL is Microsoft Songsmith, a program that matches your vocal stylings along with muzak so cheesy and disgusting that even all the glow in the dark towels in the world wouldn’t allow you to clean up the mess.

“Microsoft Songsmith generates musical accompaniment to match a singer’s voice. Just choose a musical style, sing into your microphone, and Songsmith will create backing music for you.”

First, too truly understand the wonder that is Songsmith, you MUST see Microsoft’s introduction video.

Ever since Microsoft Songsmith was introduced, people all over the internets have been going nuts creating Songsmith-i-fied versions of classic songs…

For example, who ever knew Roxanne by The Police could sound so caliente!?

And who could not love the lilting lounge-iocity of Creep by Radiohead.

There are already tons of Songsmith versions of classic songs.

And of course, we would be remiss if we didn’t mention the TECHNOasis version of Wonderwall or the sad sad version of Just What I Needed by The Cars… (more…)

BYE! GOOD… Joaquin Phoenix suspends his acting career

    posted by songspeak | 11.03.08 | permalink | comment?

joaquinbyegoodpic Walk The Line star, Joaquin Phoenix, announced last week at the premiere of Benicio Del Toro’s movie, Che, that he will no longer make any movies and is suspending his acting career to pursue his music. Phoenix learned to play guitar and sing for Walk The Line.

    From the AP:

“It’s like greener pastures, you know what I mean?” Phoenix said Saturday. “And so, I’m just going to try and like, I’ll just be doing the other thing. … Hopefully, I will emotionally impact you with that, as well.”

Early last week in San Francisco, Joaquin mentioned his decision to Extra.  The reporter thought he was joking.

Two Lovers, which also stars Gwyneth Paltrow and Vinessa Shaw will be Joaquin Phoenix’s last film.

What do you think of Joaquin's decision (in no particular order)?
