A bunch of new Comcast Town ads have caught our attention here at Songspeak. They’re a mix of animation and live action, and feature people walking around singing about what they see. You can visit Comcast Town yourself on the interwebs and do all sorts of crazy things. It’s a flashtastic site where you ‘move in’ and design things using ‘Comcast bucks’.
“Welcome to Comcast Town, a place where technology lives, the possibilities are never ending and squirrels play guitars. Like any great place, there’s lots to see and do. In the coming weeks you’ll be able to explore the town, visit friends and neighbors, play games and discover Easter eggs.”
The ad campaign was produced by Goodby, Silverstein & Partners.
Sure, they’re not as punny as the Comcast ads with terrible, yet clever puns, but I rather enjoy this new batch of ads. Pretty clever. Here’s the long generic version. A whole batch of these commercials follow below!
LYRICS:
New sensation sending shivers
Flying further, dreaming bigger
Single cable, one decision
Internet, phone, television
High speed internet elation
Crazy fast acceleration
Awe inspiring, screaming, yelling
ROTFLOLing
Voicemail, email, all connected
Caller ID, friend detected
Kelly calling, conference Karen
So much stuff to share with Sharon
More HD, awesome edition
Death defying definition
Ninjas, cowboys, gangsters, coppers
Huge explosions, helicopters
Films fantastic, shows outstanding
Motherload of on demand-ing
Hometown showdown, perfect timing
Courtside, kicking back, unwinding
Happy hi-tech automatic
Exponentially ecstatic
Speeding forward, future hopping
Always dreaming, never stopping

For those of you who live near The Law Offices of Mark E. Salomone, The Law Offices of James Scott Farrin, Kalfus & Nachman, Goodman Acker, Marks & Harrison, or any of the many many law firms who feature Robert Vaughn, William Shatner, Erik Estrada (unsurpassed blue collar market and hispanic appeal!), and even Joe Isuzu in their television commercials, you may have wondered why on earth your local/regional law firm got these people to endorse them.
It’s all because Massachusetts based firm, Market Masters offers “custom-filmed spokespersons” to legal offices big and small. We here at Songspeak have to hand it to them, they really have saturated television with these commercials. And law firms save some money by using these template-ish commercials instead of trying to produce them themselves. Sounds like a real WIN-WIN-1 to us.

We watch an awful lot of TV over here in the Songspeak National Headquarters Office Tower. And much like the Y2K scare, we plan to party like it’s 1999 when analog television transitions to digital TV only in February of 2009.
But seriously folks– who even HAS analog TV anymore? People who aren’t going to be able to figure out how to hook up a digital converter box, that’s who.
Thanks Jeff at LinkFarm for cracking an egg of knowledge about this video.
Oh, and speaking of a sign o’ the times… Back in 1999, my mom got t-shirts with big letters that said Y2KOK! for her office. Her and her co-workers were stuck working at their office on New Year’s Eve because of the Y2K hullabaloo. I was reminded of this recently because Jamie found the films for the job at the t-shirt silkscreen place he works for where the shirts were printed.
But also, I was thinking about Y2K recently because Kristen and I just finished watching Sports Night, which had an episode devoted to Y2K. Oh dated humor, you kill me.
And in case you were wondering, I’m happy to report that I’m confident everything will be Y2.009KOK here at Songspeak.

I never thought I’d be typing this, but Josh Groban gave a stellar performance at the 2008 Emmys / The Academy Awards, doing an amusing medley of television theme songs. There was quite a variety, and I think I was most impressed with seeing Groban do the South Park theme (1:45 in or so). Also notable is the theme song from Cops about 2:45 in.
Here’s a list of all the TV theme songs Josh Groban sang or made reference to:
The Simpsons
Friends
Happy Days
Golden Girls
Mister Roger’s Neighborhood
The Andy Grifith Show
The Love Boat
Law & Order
The Addams Family
The Muppet Show
The X-Files
South Park
The Jeffersons
Baywatch
The Brady Bunch
COPS
Law & Order
The Fresh Prince of Bel Air
Saturday Night Live
The Late Show with David Letterman
Late Night with Conan O’Brien
The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson
Two and a Half Men
Rawhide
Gilligan’s Island
M*A*S*H
The Carol Burnett Show
Cheers
