SanDisk announced yesterday that they would be introducing a new music format to the masses, music on SD Cards. They call this slotMusic. Apparently, they are trying to replace the Compact Disc. Really.
The slotMusic card will be 1GB capacity and will contain 320 kbps DRM-free MP3s. Liner notes, album artwork, videos, and ‘other creative content’ will also be included. They will cost between $7 and $15 and will be sold in major retail locations, such as Best Buy and Wal-Mart.
SONY BMG, Universal Music Group, EMI, and Warner Music Group have already chosen albums to be released on this format in the coming months.
From slotMusic.org
slotMusic cards enable consumers to instantly and easily enjoy music from their favorite artists without being dependent on a PC or internet connection. Users simply insert the slotMusic card into their microSD-enabled mobile phone or MP3 player to hear the music – without passwords, downloading or digital-rights-management interfering with their personal use.

We posted a bunch of stuff this past week. Some posts made us laugh, some posts made us cry. When we got together over some burritos and diet pepsi last night to plot our takeover of the internet, we realized it may be awhile before global domination ensues. One thing is for certain however, songspeak is here to stay.
Here are some of our recent faves.
- Dungarees make me feel fine
- Don’t insult our intelligence, Subway!
- Comcast TV ads with terrible, yet clever puns
- AC/DC: They’ve got the biggest balls of the Wal-Mart
- Oh, What a feeling! Toyota!
- New FreeCreditReport.com commercial with Eric Violette on a bicycle
Whatever will next week bring us? Oh, the headline is a reference to this movie, in case you were wondering.

In an interesting move, the new AC/DC album, Black Ice will be released only at Wal-Mart stores and the band’s website. Way to stick it to the man, AC/DC.
I think what surprises me most is that over the years, Wal-Mart has banned albums by Sheryl Crow, John Cougar Mellencamp, The Goo Goo Dolls and books by John Stewart, George Carlin and others. These are products Wal-Mart considers to have the wrong values for their stores. And yet, AC/DC, a band who for decades has almost exclusively had songs about sex and booze makes the cut. Wal-Mart accounts for 10% of record sales domestically, so they have a huge influence. I wonder if AC/DC will sanitize this release.
AC/DC’s last album in 2000, Stiff Upper Lip, contained the brilliant Safe In New York City, a song which Jamie and I mock profusely for the number of times the words “I feel safe in New York City” are repeated.
Oh AC/DC. Like an old friend. If all their previous albums are any indication, I’m sure that this will fall under the category of good ol’ fashioned rock n’ roll. I doubt anyone will be surprised by what it sounds like.
