Hootie & The Tendercrisp Bacon Cheddar Ranches

    posted by jamie | 09.03.08 | permalink | 3 comments

I usually hear at least one Hootie & The Blowfish song a day while listening to mix 93.1 at work. And when I do, I’m reminded of the Burger King commercial that Darius Rucker was in a few years ago.

You may have noticed that commercials are a favorite topic here at Songspeak. Well, Matt and I have had many in-depth discussions and debates regarding fast food, as well (we even once had a Fast Food Experiment Log years ago). We’ve discussed comparisons, contrasts, marketing techniques, etc. Way more time than any normal person should spend, actually.

I got your "ranch sauce" right here!

And Burger King has had some interesting ad campaigns over the years. Some have hit, and some are big misses, but this spot stands out as one of my favorites. There’s no explanation why Darius Rucker is singing in a ridiculous cowboy outfit, nor why Brooke Burke appears at the end. In fact, there’s a good chance that the ad wizards that came up with this one were seriously tripping. Hard.

But still, to me, it will stand as a classic. I want to live at the Tendercrisp Bacon Cheddar Ranch someday.
