In the late 1990s, Jamie, myself, and the rest of our friends would get together on Sunday evenings and watch The X-Files at 9. When it was over at 10, anyone who had an attention span after that would tune in to Dr. Katz on Comedy Central.
One episode in particular really amused us. It was an episode with David Duchovny (oddly enough) and Brian Regan, a comedian who spawned some key catch-phrases among our group of friends.
“Take luck. Take luck and care. Take care of the luck! Good luck taking care of the luck that you might have.
If you have luck, take it and care for it. Good luck taking care of the luck when you might have some!”
“Let’s go halves on a pie”
“Paaaaaaa-aaaaaancakes”
Here’s video of Brian Regan’s “take luck” segment on Dr. Katz, after a discussion about the size of his family.
Here’s another amusing segment (more…)

I never thought I’d be typing this, but Josh Groban gave a stellar performance at the 2008 Emmys / The Academy Awards, doing an amusing medley of television theme songs. There was quite a variety, and I think I was most impressed with seeing Groban do the South Park theme (1:45 in or so). Also notable is the theme song from Cops about 2:45 in.
Here’s a list of all the TV theme songs Josh Groban sang or made reference to:
The Simpsons
Friends
Happy Days
Golden Girls
Mister Roger’s Neighborhood
The Andy Grifith Show
The Love Boat
Law & Order
The Addams Family
The Muppet Show
The X-Files
South Park
The Jeffersons
Baywatch
The Brady Bunch
COPS
Law & Order
The Fresh Prince of Bel Air
Saturday Night Live
The Late Show with David Letterman
Late Night with Conan O’Brien
The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson
Two and a Half Men
Rawhide
Gilligan’s Island
M*A*S*H
The Carol Burnett Show
Cheers

X-Files and Californication star David Duchovny has admitted himself to a rehabilitation center for sex addiction. Many people seem surprised, but given his role on Californication, and his early work in the Showtime soft-porn series Red Shoe Diaries, I’m not all that shocked.
He has asked for respect and privacy for his family (including wife Tea Leoni), which is understandable. But one wonders how something like this happens. He must’ve kissed a girl. And liked it. A lot.
This probably also explains his ***spoiler alert*** steamy scenes with Gillian Anderson in the latest X-Files dud. I mean, movie.
Anyhow, I wish him well in his recovery. Let’s keep those boners in check, David. (And I know “boners” is crass, but blame Matt’s reference to Growing Pains in the last post for that one).
