WTF Beijing?! The Chinese Olympics little girl isn’t cute enough?!

posted by matt | 08.13.08 | permalink |

fakechinesesinger Are you telling me that the little girl who sang “Ode To The Motherland” isn’t actually Lin Miaoke? It was actually the less cute, Yang Peiyi. Well I’ll be. I can’t believe Lin Miaoke actually lip synced Yang Peiyi’s voice. Didn’t the Chinese learn anything from the Milli Vanilli debacle, or more recently– the Ashlee Simpson thing? Don’t try to pull the wool over people’s eyes, they’re going to get pretty ticked off.

WTF, BEIJING OLYMPICS!?!

realchinesesinger The opening ceremony at the 2008 Beijing Olympics was one of the most awesome things that many people have ever seen… a symbol of pride an honor for the Chinese people to show the world what their nation is capable of. Unfortunately, these shenanigans have tarnished that. Way to go, Chen Qigang and the higher-ups. Way. To. Go.

From CNN: “The reason was for the national interest,” said Chen Qigang, the ceremony’s musical director, in a state radio interview. “The child on camera should be flawless in image, internal feeling and expression. … Lin Miaoke is excellent in those aspects.”

The decision was made at the highest levels, Chen said.

“We had to do it,” he said. “We’d been through several inspections. They’re all very strict. When we rehearsed at the spot, there were several spectators from various divisions, especially leaders from the Politburo, who gave the opinion it must change.”

I.C.E.B.I. (I can’t even believe it!)

Yang Peiyi may not have had the stage presence or the looks, but at just 7 years old she already knows how be humble, saying she was honored to have had a role in the opening ceremony, even though few realized just how big her part really was. Stay classy, Yang Peiyi.

I don’t know. Maybe Matt is gettin’ upset for no reason.

Do you think it matters that they used a cuter girl lip syncing in the ceremony?

    Here are the lyrics to Ode To The Motherland, translated in English:

    Five-Starred Red Flag is fluttering in the wind,
    Bright is our song of victory;
    Sing a song of praise for our dear motherland,
    Toward prosperity and a strong nation.
    Sing a song of praise for our dear motherland,
    Toward prosperity and a strong nation.

    Across the mountains, across the plains,
    Over the turbulent Yellow and Yangtze rivers.
    Our dear homeland is beautiful and vast.
    Rise up, our heroic populace!
    Our mutual love and unification
    Made us as strong as steel.

    Five-Starred Red Flag is fluttering in the wind,
    Bright is our song of victory;
    Sing a song praise for our dear motherland,
    Toward prosperity and a strong nation.
    Sing a song praise for our dear motherland,
    Toward prosperity and a strong nation.

    We are hardworking, we are brave;
    Independence and freedom are our ideals;
    We had defeated so many obstacles,
    to achieve today’s liberation!
    We love peace, we love home,
    But if anyone dares to infringe upon our peaceful home,
    We will render him to death!

    Five-Starred Red Flag is fluttering in the wind,
    Bright is our song of victory;
    Sing a song praise for our dear motherland,
    Toward prosperity and a strong nation.
    Sing a song praise for our dear motherland,
    Toward prosperity and a strong nation.

    The sun is rising in the east;
    Our People’s Republic is maturing;
    Our leader, Mao Zedong,
    Guides the way forward.
    Our lives are improving every day,
    Our future is full of promise.

    Five-Starred Red Flag is fluttering in the wind,
    Bright is our song of victory;
    Sing a song praise for our dear motherland,
    Toward prosperity and a strong nation.
    Sing a song praise for our dear motherland,
    Toward prosperity and a strong nation.
