Are you telling me that the little girl who sang “Ode To The Motherland” isn’t actually Lin Miaoke? It was actually the less cute, Yang Peiyi. Well I’ll be. I can’t believe Lin Miaoke actually lip synced Yang Peiyi’s voice. Didn’t the Chinese learn anything from the Milli Vanilli debacle, or more recently– the Ashlee Simpson thing? Don’t try to pull the wool over people’s eyes, they’re going to get pretty ticked off.
WTF, BEIJING OLYMPICS!?!
The opening ceremony at the 2008 Beijing Olympics was one of the most awesome things that many people have ever seen… a symbol of pride an honor for the Chinese people to show the world what their nation is capable of. Unfortunately, these shenanigans have tarnished that. Way to go, Chen Qigang and the higher-ups. Way. To. Go.
From CNN: “The reason was for the national interest,” said Chen Qigang, the ceremony’s musical director, in a state radio interview. “The child on camera should be flawless in image, internal feeling and expression. … Lin Miaoke is excellent in those aspects.”
The decision was made at the highest levels, Chen said.
“We had to do it,” he said. “We’d been through several inspections. They’re all very strict. When we rehearsed at the spot, there were several spectators from various divisions, especially leaders from the Politburo, who gave the opinion it must change.”
I.C.E.B.I. (I can’t even believe it!)
Yang Peiyi may not have had the stage presence or the looks, but at just 7 years old she already knows how be humble, saying she was honored to have had a role in the opening ceremony, even though few realized just how big her part really was. Stay classy, Yang Peiyi.
I don’t know. Maybe Matt is gettin’ upset for no reason.
